The Sedalia Lions Club invites you to become an active part in your community. Each year we donate approximately $10,000 to area charities, youth groups, and hearing and sight prevention programs. In addition to numerous local sports teams and athletes that we sponsor, we annually give to such groups as Children's Therapy Center, Dream Factory, Dare Fund, CASA, American Cancer Fund, American Heart Association, the Boy Scouts and the Sedalia Area Arts.
Additionally, we buy shoes for needy children each Christmas, and purchase eyeglasses for children year round. With hearing and sight preservation as a main project for Lions internationally, we also support the Missouri Lions Eye Research in Columbia, both financially and by collecting used eye glasses, the Leader Dog Program, and the State Lions Hearing Program, among others. Lion volunteers are now also providing amblyopia screening to infants and toddlers, identifying sight problems before they cause permanent damage!
Major fundraising projects include our annual BBQ contest, working at the AAU youth basketball tournament, and at the harness racing during the Missouri State Fair. Of course, it's not all work. We strive to regularly mix in some fun along the way, such as our annual trout fishing trips, our day at SFCC basketball, family picnics, etc. Won't you join us for lunch? We meet every Wednesday at noon at the State Fair Best Western (Gamblers Room, main floor, front). Where did the name LIONS come from? The founders in 1917 felt that there needed to be a civic group which would be a vote for:
